CHUM launches provincial DI solution

January 7, 2026

Gilles SoulezMONTREAL – In December, CHUM launched Quebec’s new province-wide medical imaging solution (PACS-VIM-VNA), marking a key milestone in its digital transformation.

As one of the first pilot sites, CHUM is establishing itself as a leading player in this major project, spearheaded by Santé Québec. The solution aims to fundamentally transform, across the province, how medical imaging is accessed, shared, and integrated into patient care.

Ultimately, clinical teams will have real-time access to imaging exams conducted anywhere in Quebec, all from a single platform. This advance breaks down silos, accelerates clinical decision-making, and enhances continuity of care for patients.

Powered by Sectra’s cloud-based solution, the platform offers enhanced performance, high flexibility, and continuous updates. It integrates advanced technologies that ensure a high level of data security and confidentiality, while meeting legal requirements through data hosting within Canada.

“Real-time access to exams from different hospitals, along with reports through an efficient voice recognition system, is already having a positive impact on patient care management fluidity,” said Dr. Gilles Soulez (pictured), head of the department of radiology and nuclear medicine at CHUM.

The medical imaging solution is currently deployed across multiple departments, including radiology, nuclear medicine, obstetrics, radiation oncology, mammography, neurology, orthopedics, and CHUM’s research center.

To support this major digital shift, a structured support program has been implemented: targeted training, individualized assistance, task support, and awareness sessions for teams. Thanks to the commitment of clinicians, initial results indicate a rapid adoption and a smooth transition.

This implementation represents a decisive step forward for healthcare institutions across Quebec, supporting Santé Québec’s vision of a more integrated, interoperable, and high-performing clinical environment at the provincial level, for the benefit of the population.
