Manitoba turns-on digital health cards
January 21, 2026
WINNIPEG – Manitobans can now carry their health coverage in their smartphones, as the provincial government officially launched its new digital health card option last week.
Premier Wab Kinew (pictured), joined by Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara and Innovation Minister Mike Moroz, announced the rollout on Monday, January 12, 2026. The new initiative allows residents to apply for and access their health cards directly on their mobile devices through the MB Wallet app.
The move marks the latest step in phasing out the province’s old paper cards. “Over the past year, we’ve moved from paper health cards to plastic and now to a digital option,” Premier Kinew stated. He emphasized that the digital format puts Manitobans “in control of their own information” and supports a safer, more responsive health system.
Residents can now choose how they want to carry their credentials: they can request a plastic card, a digital card, or both. For those already registered in the health system, the digital card is available immediately with “no waiting, no delays,” according to Minister Asagwara.
The digital card is designed to work in tandem with MediNav, the online appointment-booking system that the province launched in 2025.
Together, these digital tools allow patients to find care, book appointments, and present their health coverage entirely from their smartphones.
The new cards are hosted on the MB Wallet app, which is available free of charge on the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app is designed with privacy in mind, allowing users to control when and what information they share, and it includes offline access so cards can be viewed even without an internet connection.
