Lakeridge and partners go live on Sectra cloud

April 22, 2026

Ghassan Awad ElkarimOSHAWA, Ont. – Lakeridge Health and its regional partners announced the launch of Sectra One Cloud, a new diagnostic imaging system that connects hospitals across the Central East Region – giving care teams faster, easier access to the information they need.

Clinicians can now view imaging results – like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs – from partner hospitals across the region, all in one place. Previously, this information was often stored in separate systems.

“This is a significant advancement for patient care,” said Dr. Ghassan Awad Elkarim (pictured), chief of diagnostic imaging and medical director of diagnostic services. “Having immediate access to a patient’s imaging – no matter where it was done – changes how quickly and confidently we can make decisions. That has a direct impact on the quality and timeliness of care we provide.”

This work is part of a broader regional effort through ENHANCE Ontario to modernize diagnostic imaging.

The new system connects six hospital organizations across 13 sites, supporting about one million imaging exams each year.

It’s a meaningful step toward One Patient, One Record – so care teams have the information they need, wherever patients receive care.

Transitions of this scale don’t happen without extraordinary teamwork.

From diagnostic imaging staff and physicians to IT teams and regional partners, this achievement reflects months of planning, collaboration, and commitment to improving care.

“We are excited to launch SectraOne to support the work of our teams. The features and functionality of the new system give them the advanced tools they need to best support their work and ultimately provide the best possible care for our patients every day,” said Lorel Morrison (Gutthardt), director of diagnostic imaging.

Powered by secure, cloud-based technology, Sectra One Cloud gives clinicians reliable, 24/7 access to imaging – without relying on older, local systems.

With all partner hospitals now live, imaging is connected across the Central East Region in a way that wasn’t possible before. Care teams can access what they need more quickly, work more seamlessly across organizations, and make better-informed decisions for their patients.

“This is about building a more connected system – one where information flows seamlessly across organizations, improving access for clinicians and ultimately strengthening care for patients,” said Michael Cole, director of information technology.

“This is also part of a broader transformation underway at Lakeridge Health. Alongside the launch of Epic – our connected electronic health record – Sectra One Cloud is helping create a more complete, integrated view of each patient.”

Together, these investments are moving Lakeridge Health closer to a system where information follows the patient, care is more coordinated, and geography matters less.
