October 21, 2026
TORONTO, ON – The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and Microsoft Canada are partnering to accelerate SickKids’ cloud transformation and strengthen the digital foundation needed to advance Precision Child Health.
As part of the five-year agreement, SickKids will expand its use of Microsoft Azure as its primary cloud platform, creating a more connected, secure and scalable environment for clinical systems and data.
The partnership will explore how Microsoft cloud, data, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can help SickKids unlock new insights, accelerate innovation and support more individualized approaches to diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
“This is about more than technology. It’s about laying the digital foundation that will enable personalized, data-driven care for every child,” said Sandra Moro (pictured), deputy chief information officer, SickKids. “With Microsoft Canada, we are enhancing the digital capabilities that support care today while creating new opportunities for future innovation in responsible AI, advanced analytics, and Precision Child Health.”
Microsoft is also committing to support SickKids’ cloud transformation, including Azure credits to explore and advance new cloud and AI solutions, technology partner support, and investment in skilling programs to help SickKids staff build the AI capabilities needed to support the future of care.
“Our vision is to put the right data in the right hands at the right time so every child can benefit from individualized, data-driven care,” said Dr. Ronald Cohn, president and CEO, SickKids. “Strengthening our digital foundation will help give clinicians, researchers and staff the tools and insights they need to continue delivering world-class outcomes for children and families.”
Over the next five years, SickKids and Microsoft will work together to:
- Enhance the cloud-based foundation for key clinical systems, including the electronic health record
- Enable clinicians to diagnose illness faster and treat smarter by expanding secure, connected access to data across care, research and operations
- Advance responsible use of AI and advanced analytics to explore opportunities for earlier insights, prediction and more individualized approaches to care
- Develop AI and digital skills for SickKids teams to help make effective use of emerging technologies
- Build a scalable, future-ready digital environment that can evolve alongside the needs of patients and families
“SickKids’ work is transforming what’s possible in paediatric care, and we are proud to support its commitment to deliver exceptional care to children and families,” said Matt Milton, president, Microsoft Canada. “By combining SickKids’ world-leading clinical and research expertise with the trusted capabilities of Microsoft cloud and AI, we can help create the foundation for care teams to turn data into earlier insights and more individualized treatment for every child.”
The strategic partnership builds on years of investment in cloud infrastructure at SickKids. Microsoft’s advanced cloud security capabilities will help strengthen the protection and resilience of critical systems and data while providing the flexibility to support future innovation and growth.
On October 15, 2026, leaders from Microsoft Canada visited SickKids to commemorate and celebrate the strategic partnership.
