WATERLOO, Ont. – Technology developed by engineering researchers at the University of Waterloo has been adopted by a major pathology facility in the United States. The Joint Pathology Center (JPC), which has the world’s largest collection of preserved human tissue samples, will use an artificial intelligence search engine to index and search its digital archive as part of a modernization effort.
TORONTO – International scientists are challenging their colleagues to make Artificial Intelligence (AI) research more open and reproducible to accelerate the impact of their findings for cancer patients. In particular, they’re targeting studies that claim AI systems are better at diagnosing disease than physicians, but which fail to offer enough transparency to test and reproduce the results.

LONDON, ON – Researchers at Lawson Health Research Institute are investigating whether an artificial neural network could be used to diagnose COVID-19. The AI system is being trained to learn and recognize patterns in ultrasound lung scans of patients with confirmed COVID-19 at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) by comparing them to ultrasound scans of patients with other types of lung infections.
MONTREAL – Faced with the urgency posed by COVID-19, Scale AI recently launched a call for projects that can help Canada meet this challenge by leveraging technology and artificial intelligence (AI). The challenge resulted in more than 120 projects being submitted in just three weeks.
