SCARBOROUGH, Ont. – Ontario’s privacy commissioner, Ann Cavoukian (pictured), is now investigating the breach of as many as 8,300 patient records at Rouge Valley Health System in Scarborough, just east of Toronto. According to the hospital, two employees had been leaking the records to outside companies that were paying for the data. Read More

ST. JOHN’S, Nfld. & Labrador – Earlier this month, Eastern Health said an administrative employee breached privacy by prying into the files of about 20 clients. Beverley Clarke (pictured), vice-president of privacy for Eastern Health, said management was informed of the breach from another employee who performed due diligence and filed an occurrence report. CALGARY – Hundreds of Albertans have registered for a class-action law suit concerning a missing laptop that contained the personal and health information of 620,000 persons. The Calgary Herald reported that well-known class-action lawyer Clint Docken (pictured) of Docken & Co. expects those numbers to rise in the days ahead.
