Winnipeg health authority names new CEO

June 3, 2015

Lori Lamont

WINNIPEG – Ms. Lori Lamont (pictured), Vice-President, Inter-professional Practice & Chief Nursing Officer, has been appointed Interim President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, effective Friday May 29, 2015.

Ms. Arlene Wilgosh, current President and CEO of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, announced late last year she was retiring this spring.

“I am pleased to appoint Ms. Lori Lamont as interim President and CEO of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority,” said Dr. Jerry Gray, Chair of the Board of Directors.

“Lori has been with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority for 17 years with the last six years in senior leadership positions. I am confident she will provide the leadership necessary to move the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority forward, and continue the progress we are making in dealing with the challenges facing the region.”

The appointment of Ms. Lamont as interim President and CEO will be effective until a permanent President and CEO has been appointed. The Board of Directors is actively recruiting a permanent President and CEO, and this recruitment process continues.

Lori Lamont has a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Manitoba and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Manitoba.

Lori’s nursing career has spanned over three decades. Involving direct care, specializing in elder care, Lori has seized opportunities for progressive responsibility, resulting in her pursuing formal leadership and management positions.

This has ultimately led to her current position, which is senior management at a regional level in the Winnipeg Health Region, responsible for Emergency, Critical Care, Medicine, Long Term Care, Clinical Education across two tertiary hospitals, four community hospitals, six health centres and 39 long term care facilities.

Lori provides nursing leadership for professional nursing practice across all sectors and programs in the health region.

Best nursing practice is at the heart of everything Lori does. Accessible with patient care, she is also known for her advocacy for elder care, the nursing profession and collaborative care.

As Chief Nursing Officer for the Region, she has made a significant contribution to healthcare and nursing in Manitoba. Lori is also an Adjunct Professor (External) with the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Nursing.
