COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Casselman (pictured), a recognized Canadian digital health and innovation executive, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective June 1, 2015.

“Mark brings a wealth of industry knowledge, expertise and relationships to COACH,” said President Mike Barron. “He has acquired a unique combination of private, public and not-for-profit experience throughout his 15+ year career through key roles with major organizations in the industry, including PwC, University Health Network (UHN), and Humber College.

“Recognized as a digital health innovator, his experience in working with executives and clinical leaders across the Canadian health ecosystem, championing innovation in consumer-focused health products and services and leading large-scale transformation and strategic planning will be great assets to COACH and our members,” said Barron.

Mark has a proven track record of working with stakeholders and integrating both shared and different perspectives to create successes. His previous experience includes roles as Director, Healthcare Consulting (National Lead, mHealth) with PwC, board member with the Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre, Senior Project Manager with the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation & SIMS, Professor, Health Promotion with Humber College, and co-founder of Motus Health.

Mark earned his Master of Science at Western University. He is an Adjunct Lecturer with the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, and Volunteer Advisor, Health Venture Services at MaRS Discovery District. His interests include go-to-market strategy and implementation of innovative services and products.

“I am truly honoured and very pleased to join the COACH team at this pivotal point in the association’s history and rising impact of digital health in Canada,” said Mark. “I am deeply committed to the health informatics professionals who dedicate themselves to transforming health service delivery and enhancing the consumer experience in this country. I look forward to guiding COACH’s important initiatives to support these professionals and equip them for the opportunities and challenges ahead.”

As the new CEO, Mark will drive COACH forward to expand its capacity, enhance services to members, deliver increasing value across the association’s professional offerings, and address emerging areas such as mobile health (mHealth), Internet of Things (IoT), virtual care, and innovation management.

Over the coming months Mark will reach out to key stakeholders and contacts across the country and meet with members to further understand their needs and interests. Mark will succeed outgoing COACH CEO Don Newsham.
