Intersystems releases TrakCare for lab business

June 8, 2016

Martin Wilkinson

SYDNEY, Australia – InterSystems, a global leader in health information technology, has announced the release of the world’s first laboratory business management system, TrakCare Lab Enterprise, and its implementation at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust in the UK.

TrakCare Lab Enterprise is a key module within the InterSystems TrakCare unified healthcare information system. Both Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS and Northern Devon NHS Trusts are implementing TrakCare Lab Enterprise as part of broader TrakCare deployments. It is also available as a standalone system.

“Pathology services around the world are experiencing rapid change,” said Martin Wilkinson (pictured), director of product introduction, strategy and user adoption for InterSystems. “This is being driven by advances in medical care, the demands of chronic disease management, and the implementation of laboratory consolidation and specialisation.”

TrakCare Lab Enterprise is designed to help customers transform from a reactive testing and results service – typically supported by a traditional data and analytical management solution – to a data-driven organization capable of meeting the increased expectations for a modern pathology service.

“Clinicians now want tailored reporting of test results and to see them integrated into their electronic medical record systems,” said Wilkinson. “Public health agencies are demanding information for bio-surveillance and a proactive approach to disease prevention. At the same time, laboratories are under pressure to deliver more test results at a lower cost.”

While supporting a modern clinical laboratory’s business practices, TrakCare Lab Enterprise is also designed to streamline operations by reducing turnaround times for repetitive tasks, including capturing required data and delivering feedback on results and performance. It provides ERP-like visibility, control, and accountability over the entire testing process.

Built on a health informatics platform, TrakCare Lab Enterprise enables organizations to capture, share, understand, and act on data for improved operational decision-making. It also simplifies administration and supports effective and responsive planning for the future.
