Sainte-Justine and HEC form training partnership

April 11, 2018

Helene David

MONTREAL – The CHU Sainte-Justine hospital and HEC Montréal, longstanding partners, are proud to announce a partnership to develop new training programs in healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship. The programs will take a global approach to healthcare, with target clienteles from a variety of sectors: healthcare and services, digital technology and telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, arts, design, transportation and logistics, and environmental design.

The partnership is intended for students seeking academic or professional careers in healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship, and for current managers, professionals and entrepreneurs.

“This network of expertise between academics, entrepreneurs, managers and health professionals is intended to form a highly qualified workforce that will create and implement innovations to ultimately improve the health of the entire population,” said Hélène David (pictured), Minister of Higher Education.

“While we all possess innate creativity, innovation requires the appropriate conditions to implement new ideas, adapt them to the situation and illustrate their benefits,” explains Dr. Fabrice Brunet, CHU Sainte-Justine president and CEO. “That’s the role of innovators and entrepreneurs in healthcare, and we are very happy to announce this partnership that will support all innovators in our society looking to improve people’s health.”

One of the innovative aspects of this partnership is that it includes all players in the healthcare innovation ecosystem, i.e. university hospitals and other institutions in the healthcare system, research centres, industry leaders and entrepreneurs in various sectors, key players in social innovation, and the international network.

With all these partners, an in-depth analysis of needs and practical, integrated, multidisciplinary and multi-sector teaching approaches will be the first step, so as to adjust the nature of the teaching approach to specific needs. The first programs for practising managers, professionals and entrepreneurs should be ready by fall 2018.

“Collaborative innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity are key aspects of research, teaching and knowledge transfer at HEC Montréal, and we have professors and researchers with internationally recognized expertise in this field,” notes HEC Montréal director Mr. Michel Patry. “This collaboration with our partners at the CHU Sainte-Justine gives us the opportunity to put this knowledge to work for the good of the community, including through training for the entire healthcare ecosystem in Quebec, and potentially throughout the international French-speaking community.”
