New president and CEO announced at Philips Canada

August 8, 2018

Jeff BarnesMARKHAM, Ont. – Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, announced that Jeffrey H. Barnes (pictured) has succeeded Iain Burns as president and CEO of Philips Canada, with immediate effect. Mr. Barnes is a member of the Philips North America Executive Team and will report to the CEO of North America, Vitor Rocha.

After leading the Canadian organization for 17 years, Iain Burns retired on July 31, 2018.

“Jeff is a proven leader with nearly three decades of experience in working with high-performance, cross-functional teams, and he has worked closely with our North American partners to understand the solutions they need to stay ahead of a rapidly changing industry, helping them to deliver better healthcare for their communities,” said Vitor Rocha, CEO Philips North America.

“I am confident that Jeff will build on the exceptional contributions made by Iain Burns to Philips – in Canada, North America and around the globe. I want to commend Iain for his accomplishments, thank him for his continued commitment to the Canadian business and wish him all the best as he begins to plan for retirement.”

Mr. Barnes brings 27 years of customer-driven experience to his new role, having served in numerous leadership positions, most recently as Senior Vice President and North American Commercial Leader for Philips Healthcare.

During this time, he oversaw a commercial organization with a solutions portfolio that includes Diagnostic Imaging (MR, CT, and Cardiovascular X-Ray), Patient Monitoring, Ultrasound, Ventilation, Defibrillation and Home Healthcare. He successfully led a 1,200+ person commercial team and managed significant change in the go-to-market strategy for North America.

Mr. Burns began his career with Philips Canada in 1980 and was appointed President and CEO of Philips Canada in 2001, consistently achieving significant growth and profits. Over the years he has proven himself as a dynamic and inspiring leader and trusted partner to Canadian customers and stakeholders.

Over the past few months Mr. Burns and Mr. Barnes have worked together to ensure a smooth transition for customers, partners and for employees so that the Canadian Philips organization will continue to deliver innovative personal and professional healthcare solutions to Canadian patients and consumers.
