Equinoxe acquires SE Health’s Elizz in Quebec

June 12, 2024

Jeremy AltmanMONTREAL – Equinoxe LifeCare, a leading provider of private homecare services in Quebec since 1998, will acquire the Quebec homecare operations of Elizz, a division of SE Health. This acquisition reinforces Equinoxe’s presence in Quebec as the company enters the next phase of its growth with the recent launch of LifeCare Plus, its care & safety program.

Elizz is an integral part of SE Health, a leading, not-for-profit, healthcare provider that has been delivering excellence and innovation to Canadians for more than 115 years. Dedicated to caregiving, Elizz helps people live safely and age at home as independently as possible with personal, nursing and dementia care and offers caregivers the support and tools they need to better care for their family members – and themselves.

According to the findings of a study on autonomous living conditions for individuals in Quebec, conducted by the Jacques-Parizeau Research Chair (HEC Montreal), if the current support system is maintained until 2040, the province will see a 70% increase in autonomous living support needs, rising from 324,400 individuals requiring care to 547,900.

The care preferences survey confirmed a strong interest in homecare, especially when needs are low to moderate. It is within this context that the present acquisition conducted by Equinoxe will play an important role in the current and future needs of Quebec society.

“At a time when social cohesion is more important than ever, we are on a mission to democratize access to private homecare”, said Jeremy Altman (pictured), chief executive officer of Equinoxe. “Elizz and SE Health have an excellent and longstanding reputation in Canada, and we are thrilled to welcome their Quebec team within our own. Together, we will pursue our mission, which is based on a social enterprise philosophy, and continue to advocate for families seeking the best homecare experience for their loved ones. The acquisition of Elizz operations in Quebec will help us further develop the best in-person care, through our human approach combined with the latest technologies, and continue transforming homecare into an omnichannel experience.”

The acquisition of Elizz operations in Quebec by Equinoxe LifeCare follows the recent introduction of LifeCare Plus, a care and safety program that helps seniors live autonomously at home, and longer at home, through 24/7 access to virtual care and telehealth services.

The cutting-edge technology embedded in this program relies on discrete plug-and-play sensors which continuously detect, predict and prevent unwanted care-related events. The non-wearable solution works through acoustics to ensure a seamless experience for seniors while preserving their privacy and autonomy. The program monitors the well-being of seniors at all times, ensuring their safety even in the absence of family members or caregivers.

“The needs of our aging population in Canada are a growing priority for public as well as private stakeholders”, said Danielle Pollack, founder and executive chair of Equinoxe. “Innovation is at the heart of what we do, and it is exciting, even encouraging and inspiring, to see how Equinoxe LifeCare continues to revolutionize homecare services. With the addition of Elizz operations in Quebec, we are in an even stronger position to extend our network and our impact in Canada. And as always, we will be listening to our clients.”
