Trillium teams up with Signal 1 to accelerate AI usage

November 6, 2024

Karli FarrowMISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Trillium Health Partners is announcing a multi-year strategic partnership with Signal 1, a Canadian health Artificial Intelligence (AI) company. The partnership will enable the hospital to further develop its capabilities around AI and accelerate the safe adoption of AI tools to deliver improved outcomes.

Signal 1’s AI solutions will power critical hospital functions, such as optimizing discharge planning and improving care in emergency settings, to enable better patient care, enhanced decision-making and improved workflows and efficiencies across the hospital.

“As we tackle the challenges of today and create a new kind of healthcare for a healthier community, advanced technology and AI will help us to improve the quality and timeliness of care for our patients. Using AI to address capacity challenges and improve workflows allows our teams to focus on what they do best – providing exceptional care for our patients,” said Karli Farrow, president and CEO, Trillium Health Partners.

“Building on the success of our existing AI tools, Signal 1’s partnership will allow us to take advantage of the enormous potential of AI to improve health while ensuring the ethical, responsible and human-centred use of AI in clinical settings.”

Drawing on Signal 1’s expertise in responsible AI deployment, THP and Signal 1 will also collaborate to develop a best-in-class AI governance program at THP.

Multiple AI applications have already been deployed at THP – including Signal 1’s Discharge Solution – that are changing how the hospital works, cares and improves outcomes for patients.

“AI has the potential to bring significant and sustained benefits to healthcare systems,” said Tomi Poutanen, CEO, Signal 1. “Signal 1 provides hospitals with the technology and support they need to safely deliver and scale AI tools across their organization. We are thrilled to be partnering with THP, one of Canada’s most innovative health systems, to set the standard for how hospitals can responsibly use AI to deliver benefits to patients, staff and communities.”

This partnership brings together two highly complementary organizations. Trillium Health Partners is one of Canada’s largest and most innovative community-based hospital systems; Signal 1 is a leading provider of health-AI applications in Canada, with solutions impacting patient care across five hospitals and more than 1,000 acute care beds daily.

THP and Signal 1 have a shared vision for how AI can transform and sustain healthcare delivery and a commitment to develop and deploy new technologies ethically, responsibly with the appropriate safeguards and education.
