Guelph moves ahead with new imaging centre

April 9, 2025

Samir PatelGUELPH, Ont. – Guelph General will be working with Western Medical Canada Inc. to design and build the diagnostic imaging space and other services for ambulatory patients at its new medical centre at the Guelph campus of Conestoga College. Design work has begun, and construction is set to begin this summer.

Western Medical Canada Inc. is one of Canada’s leading healthcare construction companies, specializing in diagnostic imaging installations. The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital continues to fundraise to support the new MRI, additional imaging services and related construction, and recently announced a $5 million contribution from The Angel Gabriel Foundation, as well as several other leading donations.

“After careful planning we are ready to move forward with designing and constructing our new medical centre and I am filled with gratitude for the entire project team, our partners, and our donors. This medical centre will allow us to provide more options for accessing diagnostic imaging services that are less stressful than a typical hospital visit and more convenient. It will help us provide even better care,” said Dr. Samir Patel (pictured), chief of diagnostic imaging at Guelph General Hospital.

Fully managed and operated by Guelph General Hospital, the centre will initially offer breast imaging, ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, and bone mineral density tests. In the coming years, the centre will expand to include outpatient services such as endoscopy and an orthopaedic clinic. X-Ray, ultrasound and MRI services will also continue to be available at the main hospital campus.

For Conestoga College, this collaboration presents an opportunity to further its commitment to supporting the healthcare sector. “Conestoga College is proud to be a part of the Guelph community, and this partnership is a testament to that,” said John Tibbits, president, Conestoga College. “We are committed to support the city’s growth and development and look forward to working together to build a brighter future for Guelph.”
