Fonemed unveils new solutions for virtual care
November 5, 2025
ST. JOHN’S, NL – Fonemed, a global leader in healthcare technology, virtual care delivery, and clinical services, this week announced the launch of its Device-Integrated Solutions, a breakthrough suite of intelligent care products designed to close gaps in access, accelerate clinical decisions, and modernize how healthcare is delivered in real time.
The new lineup, featuring the Fonemed Care Pod, Black Bag, and Mobile Care Cart integrates advanced diagnostic devices with Fonemed’s proprietary Florizel software platform and 24/7 clinical support. Together, they enable comprehensive, connected care anywhere, from emergency rooms to long-term care facilities, community clinics, industrial sites, correctional facilities, rural communities, and remote regions around the world.
“This changes the game,” said Charlene Brophy (pictured), president & CEO of Fonemed. “We’re eliminating barriers to care – distance, staffing shortages, and system bottlenecks – by giving clinicians real-time tools to assess, diagnose, and treat patients anywhere. This is healthcare without walls; safe, scalable, and built for impact.”
The solutions:
- Care Pod: A self-sufficient, privacy-first care station that allows patients to place diagnostic devices themselves, reducing the need for onsite clinical support in community clinics, rural hubs, and employer health sites.
- Black Bag: A portable clinician kit enabling remote medical diagnostics for home care, early discharge, mobile crisis teams, and outreach services.
- Mobile Care Cart: A bedside hospital cart that supports virtual consultations and rounding for hospitals, long-term care, and step-down units.
More than a video consultation, each solution delivers real-time biometrics including digital stethoscope, otoscope, dermatological imaging, and AI-assisted clinical documentation, all streamed securely to a Fonemed clinician or partner provider.
Fonemed currently provides virtual care programs to over 40 million people across North America. Its flagship Virtual Nurse Practitioner program sees fewer than 1% of patients requiring escalation to in-person emergency care, a clear signal of clinical effectiveness and cost avoidance.
These new solutions supercharge that proven model, combining people, data, devices, and expertise into one connected ecosystem of care.
Fonemed officially unveiled its Device-Integrated Solutions this week at the Newfoundland and Labrador’s Health Services Innovation Summit 2025 and PolyUnity’s Open House. Fonemed is proud to acknowledge PolyUnity as a key partner, their design expertise and locally produced 3D-printed antimicrobial materials were instrumental in bringing this vision to life.
