November 12, 2025

Bruce SquiresTORONTO – After an extensive search, the board of directors of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is pleased to announce Bruce Squires (pictured) as incoming president and CEO, effective February 2, 2026. Bruce is a nationally respected and accomplished senior healthcare executive with over 30 years of C-suite experience, including more than 12 years leading children’s hospitals.

Known for visionary and transformational leadership, Bruce brings a unique combination of experience and accomplishments across a wide breadth of healthcare executive roles.

“On behalf of the board, I am delighted to welcome Bruce as the next president and CEO of Holland Bloorview,” said Catherine Roche, chair, Holland Bloorview board of directors. “Bruce’s visionary leadership and deep commitment to children’s health will guide our organization into an exciting new chapter.

“His extensive experience and proven track record in advancing pediatric care make him the ideal leader to build on our legacy of excellence. We look forward to working with Bruce as we continue to set bold goals and deliver meaningful impact for children, youth and families.”

For the past six years, Bruce has served as president of McMaster Children’s Hospital and vice president, Women’s & Children’s Health at Hamilton Health Sciences. Prior to that, he spent six years as vice president of people, strategy and performance at CHEO in Ottawa, acting as the executive lead for quality, safety, strategy and people.

Bruce has played a pivotal role in supporting these organizations to achieve internationally recognized levels of excellence.

His career also includes 20 years as a senior executive in professional health associations, including the Canadian Medical Association. This breadth of experience has provided Bruce with a uniquely broad and deep understanding of all dimensions critical to health system and organizational success, including leadership of children’s health systems and hospital/academic health sciences centres, organizational strategy, clinical and business operations, quality, safety and performance, organizational culture, government and media relations and advocacy.

“I am truly honoured and excited to join Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital as its next president and CEO,” said Squires. “The opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated team, and to help advance care, teaching and learning and support for children, youth, and families, is deeply meaningful to me. I look forward to building on the organization’s legacy of excellence and contributing to its bold, ambitious goals for the future.”

Deeply committed to system leadership, partnership and transformation, Bruce has held leadership roles at national, provincial, regional, and local levels, including chair of Children’s Healthcare Canada and governing council chair of the Provincial Council on Maternal & Child Health.

He is also a passionate leader in supporting both hospital philanthropy and national and provincial advocacy. At McMaster Children’s Hospital, Bruce led financial growth and stewardship efforts, securing funding increases of nearly $60 million over the past two fiscal years.

“I am thrilled that Bruce will be Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital’s next president and CEO,” said Julia Hanigsberg, outgoing president and CEO. “I have worked closely with Bruce and have seen first-hand his leadership at the regional, provincial and national level. He is an unparalleled collaborator, innovator, deeply committed to childhood disability healthcare, research, teaching and child and family integrated care.”

She added, “He is an empathetic and wise leader and I know Holland Bloorview’s entire team will benefit from his knowledge and experience. The organization could not be in better hands for its next chapter.”

The Holland Bloorview community looks forward to his leadership as we continue to set bold, ambitious goals and evolve care for children and youth with disabilities and developmental differences.

With Julia’s retirement date set for December 31, 2025, Holland Bloorview has appointed Dr. Golda Milo Manson, vice president of medicine and academic affairs, to be interim CEO from January 1, 2026, until February 1, 2026.
