TORONTO – The Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI), led by Baycrest, has announced support for the development and validation testing of 31 new innovations in aging and brain healthcare.
A total of $1.4 M in support has been leveraged through CABHI’s Spark program, which aims at fostering innovations from point-of-care workers who have grassroots ideas they want to develop into real-world applications for the aging population.

MONTREAL – A patients’ rights group has launched a class-action suit against Quebec’s network of long-term care centres for providing its residents with “bad service.”
The suits seeks compensatory damages of $250 to $750, as well as exemplary damages of $100, for each month spent within the network by its 37,000 users over the past three years, an award that could add up to a minimum of $500 million.

OTTAWA – Bruyère Research Institute (BRI) has acquired a Norwegian technology to promote exercise for older adults in Bruyère’s outpatient rehabilitation and long-term care programs.
The technology is called Motiview and was designed by Norwegian company Motitech. It works by positioning patients on a stationary bicycle in front of a television screen that simulates real-life bicycle ride locations from around the world.
