GUELPH, Ont. – Guelph General Hospital plans to improve its on-site diagnosis of disease with the addition of nuclear medicine imaging this November. The acute-care hospital is the only one of its size in the province to still be without such imaging technology, but once it is up and running it will be among the best in Canada, said Dr. Samir Patel (pictured), chief of diagnostic imaging.

WINNIPEG – Manitoba has announced the introduction of a comprehensive, fully integrated provincial system for digital mammography. Health Minister Sharon Blady (pictured) said the first provincial site to receive a digital mammography system will be the Brandon Regional Health Centre in September 2015, adding that other sites will receive digital mammography between October 2015 and April 2016.

TORONTO – Agfa HealthCare announced that Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has selected the DX-D 600 full room Direct Radiography (DR) suite to transition two X-ray rooms from analog to DR. The selection followed a thorough review of several DR technologies in which Agfa HealthCare’s DX-D 600, in combination with its MUSICA image processing software, was determined as ideally suited for the hospital’s large and fast-paced trauma centre. WINNIPEG – Construction has started on a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suite at the Grace Hospital, a 251-bed facility in the west end of Winnipeg.
